Richard is a Certified Advanced Actor/Combatant with the Society of American Fight Directors who has taught stage combat and choreographed theatrical violence in colleges, universities and LORT theaters around the country, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in the theater from the University of San Francisco.
His fight direction credits include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Fool for Love, Hamlet, I Hate Hamlet, Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing,Extremities, The Rover, Sleuth, Taming of the Shrew, Twelfth Night, True West, several productions of Romeo & Juliet and many others. He has also staged fights forNew York State Shakespeare, Milwaukee Shakespeare, ShakespeareFest, Racine Correctional Facility Shakespeare Project, Skylight Opera Theatre, and First Stage Children’s Theatre where he has taught stage combat in the Young Actors Conservatory.
He has served as Lecturer in Stage Combat in the Department of Theatre at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Guest Instructor at Brandeis University, Boston University, the North Carolina School of the Arts, Colby College and American Repertory Theatre’s Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard University. In New England, he directed fights at Gloucester Stage, North Shore Music Theatre, Penobscot Theatre Company, Portland Stage Company, and for the regional theatre premieres of The Scarlet Pimpernel and Ragtime.
